Hennessy Pure White

Today we tasted a new bottle, Hennessy Pure White! This bottle is hard to come by in US stores and we had a friend who brought this from another neighbor country for us. Hennessy Pure White VS Cognac is an intriguing blend of Eau-de-vie between two and 50 years from the Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, and Fins Bois regions, which yields a very intricate, pure cognac. According to one of Hennessy's members of the tasting committee, "It's a difficult cognac to produce." This Pure White Cognac expresses the qualities of the white wines from which it has distilled. They have produced with the most beautiful white grapes from the sunny cognac region. The cognac double distillations produce flowery aromas and compelling characters. All the Master Blender's art has expressed in this atypical creation that garbs Hennessy Pure White with a bright robe and with fragrances drawn from the vine. Hine Rare VSOP

Expect only the most fine from Hine. Thomas Hine has been distilling their delectable works along the banks of the La Charente River since 1763. That’s more than 250 years in the same spot, doing pretty much the same thing, which BTW makes their distillery older than the US. When the folks at Thomas Hine started digging in storage, they found ancient barrels of Cognac from the last millennium. Sure enough, Hines is famous for having old vintages on hand… just lying around. Every once in awhile, they issue a special release that sells for the price of a car. But most of the time, they continue to produce a large line of premium, accessible, extra-aged eau-de-vie of the highest quality. Queen Elizabeth herself declared them the “Royal supplies of Cognac.” Hine VSOP is their flagship. Baardseth XO

Today we get together for the last tasting of 2022. We tasted Baardseth XO, we had this bottle before and it's fun to try it again and compare our notes and scores. This Petite Champagne Single Cru is a blend of 10-20 year old Cognac. This is a much warmer (feeling) and fuller style of Cognac compared to the VSOP. Baked apple upfront gives this Cognac a warmness, like sitting by a fire with a light blanket. From the oak, the libation really picks up a floral characteristics that adds to the warmth of the experience. On the finish, toasted toffee and coco bean add richness.
